Teach Minchew

Teach Minchew

Camp Director

GOOOOOOOD MORNING, Sherwood Forest Summer Camp! Since 2014, I’ve had the incredible honor of serving as the camp’s director, where adventure seamlessly blends with tradition. My name is Teach—a title I’ve embraced since my very first Renaissance festival more than two decades ago, embodying the spirit of discovery and creativity.

As a newly retired educator with 26 years of experience in teaching science, my mission has always been to inspire young minds through action and engagement. Since I became the Sherwood Forest Summer Camp Director, I’ve poured that same passion and dedication into leading this camp, ensuring each summer is a breathtaking adventure. From exhilarating archery challenges to immersive medieval quests, I’m committed to creating unforgettable experiences that spark joy and ignite imaginations.

I can't wait to guide us toward even greater heights and continue this remarkable journey together! Let the magic of Sherwood begin!

George Appling

George Appling

Marketing Director

George, co-founder and co-owner of the Sherwood Forest Faire, is the “spiritual father” of Sherwood Forest Summer Camp, having conceived the notion and taken the steps necessary to bring the camp into existence.  George functions as a cast member during Faire season, a Master (teacher) during summer camp, and as Sherwood's year-round Marketing Director.

Outside of Sherwood George Appling is an author and entrepreneur whose extensive career spans across countries, industries, and sectors.

In 2018, George co-founded a Sherwood-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit called Knights of the Grail, which helps Veterans and first responders via equine therapy.

Since 2020 he has been a Vistage Chair who mentors CEOs and business owners, helping them experience the joy of doing what they love and succeeding.

George holds 2 Masters degrees from Harvard and 2 Bachelors degrees from Texas A&M. He was a junior partner at McKinsey & Co and a lead partner at Booz & Co. He served as president of a business unit at Siemens, the COO of Brightstar, and the CEO of a $1B cellphone distribution company.

George enjoys spending time with his partner and their three teenagers, traveling, reading, and visiting renaissance faires throughout the country.
