The Tournament of Champions is a different camp format that was implemented for the first time in 2022. This special week is for campers aged 11 - 16 and takes place during the 4th week of Youth Camp.
Campers will choose to join one of six clans with whom they will eat, sleep, and spend their days. Each clan will have its own unique focus. Clans will be paired with a rival, against whom they will be competing on Friday as well as undertaking smaller "challenges" throughout the week.
The 2023 clans and rivalries are as follows:
Robin Hood vs the Sheriff of Nottingham
These clans will compete in a battle of wits, arrows and dance! Campers will learn skills in Archery, Storytelling, Games, Courtly Dance and Freeform dance as they compete for points!
Seelie Fae vs Unseelie Fae
This rivalry will compete in a battle of fairy skills! Campers will learn crafting skills such as blacksmithing, fiber arts or leatherworking along with creating their very own Fae character to introduce in a storytelling competition. They shall end their time as Sherwood Camp Fae with an epic spell battle to see which Fae Court will rule for the coming season!
Lord George vs Lord Nox
For our Final Match-up we have had to replace the challengers from last season. King Richard and Prince John left such a wake of destruction behind them that we decided to ask Lord George and Lord Nox to battle in their stead. We are not sure this was a wise decision but, here we are. Campers will do battle in multiple challenges as they learn skills in horsemanship, swordplay, axe throwing, and of course - the Castle Siege with an expanded field this year!
Each clan will be assigned their own sleeping area in the Merry Folk Pavilions. which are large, military-grade tents that stand over a raised wooden platform. They are insulated and climate controlled. The Pavilions house up to 30 campers each.
In all sleeping areas, campers sleep on bunk beds with twin-sized foam pads.
Sleeping accommodations are gender neutral and campers are monitored around the clock.
Campers are dropped off on Sunday and picked up on Saturday. If campers are attending the third week of our regular summer camp, they can stay with us on that “bridge” Saturday night and enjoy extra-special activities at no extra charge! (We’ll do their laundry for no additional charge too.)
A typical camper day includes learning skills and participating in activities that they will need during the Tournament to be held on Friday, 3 healthy meals, a snack, and an evening activity or entertainment of some kind after dinner. Campers end their day with a shower and bedtime story.
We offer a healthy, kid-friendly menu with options to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Our catering is performed by an experienced caterer, with attention given to special dietary needs or restrictions.
